Suitable for Class A type fires involving combustible materials such as wood, paper and fabrics. The Hydrospray Elite fire extinguisher range contains special additives, which reduce the water''s surface tension and inhibit the propagation of fire.

The Hydrospray Elite fire extinguisher gives up to 300% more fire fighting capability than conventional water fire extinguishers. Hydrospray fire extinguishers incorporate a spray nozzle, which provides a more effective spread than a conventional jet. Although not recommended specifically for electrical risks, the fire extinguishers have passed the 35kv conductivity of discharge test, thus reducing operator risk if used in close proximity to electrical equipment.

Fire ratings provide a means of measuring the effectiveness of an extinguisher in terms of the maximum size of fire that can be extinguished. Class A rating is related to a wooden crib fire 0.5m wide x 0.56m high x length. The rating figure is ten times the length in metres, eg. 13A uses a crib 1.3 metres long.

The Hydrospray Elite Fire Extinguisher was developed in 1997 as a direct response to customer needs.

It was felt that the while traditional 9 litre water fire extinguishers are very effective on class A fires made up of woods, solids or materials, a smaller, lighter version would be much easier for some people to use. Chubb developed the Hydrospray Elite. This 3 litre fire extinguisher is able to achieve the same fire ratings as a 9 litre water extinguisher, in a size that makes it easier for anyone to lift and manoeuvre.

Testing the Hydrospray Elite

The Class A fire rating is a standard measurement of fire extinguisher performance. A fire is built under controlled conditions, using pinewood cut to specific lengths, stacked in a specific way to accurate measurements, ignited and allowed to burn for a measured period, before the fire extinguisher to be tested is used to put it out.

The fire which gives the Hydrospray Elite Extinguisher its 13A rating is 0.56m high, 0.5m wide and 1.3m long, burning for 8 minutes before the fire extinguisher is deployed. This is the same size fire that many 9 litre water fire extinguishers have been tested against.

Samples of all our fire extinguishers, including the Hydrospray Elite, are regularly tested at the factory to verify that any new extinguisher is exactly the same as the one that passed the test originally under BSI controlled conditions.

Servicing the Hydrospray Elite Fire Extinguisher

Our FETA (Fire Extinguisher Trades Association) trained and qualified fire extinguisher service engineers have both the skills and equipment to maintain the Hydrospray Elite. Working strictly in accordance with the fire extinguisher servicing standard BS5306, all our engineers carry with them the additive that is used in this water based fire extinguisher.

Our engineers also carry with them exact replacement hoses incorporating the unique nozzle that separates the water particles making it safe (as per the 35kV test) if it is accidentally used on an electrical fire. The hose nozzle also provides the user with a natural water shield to enable him or her to get closer to the fire is he/she so desires.

Best-selling Hydrospray Elite

The Hydrospray Elite is now one of our largest selling fire extinguishers. Since Chubb Fire achieved the Millennium Award in 2000, many imitators now sell a 3 litre variant of this class A fire extinguisher. With this it appears that manufacturers and customers alike are realising the benefits of supplying smaller, high performance fire extinguishers without having to compromise on safety.
