Inert Gas Blends
Typical applications are:
- machinery
- control and ventilation spaces
- communications/computer rooms
- control rooms
- flammable liquid hazards
Advantages
- Electrically non-conductive
- Blend of naturally occurring gases
- Zero Ozone Depletion Potential
- No agent breakdown products since inert gases are not subject to thermal decomposition
- Similar density to that of air. This means that, should there be a problem of leakage in the compartment, they retain their concentration in the risk area better than Halon
Disadvantages
- Relatively slow flame extinguishing
- High pressure storage, requiring solid drawn high pressure storage cylinders
- Large volume of gas required, which has implications for space and weight
